How care homes can prepare for the Coronavirus lockdown.

The coronavirus could pose a potential threat to our seniors. Here are ways that care homes can prepare for a potential mass outbreak.

Of course there’s so much we need to do to prepare for coronavirus other than just stocking up for a long stay at home. Especially those who are running care homes. As the owner of a business providing care to some of the most vulnerable individuals, it’s important for you to stay educated and alert.

We’ve pulled together some useful tips, but please note this is not intended to replace research from established public health institutions and we strongly recommend that you continue your own research through the publicly available resources.

#1: Educate your staff on how to prevent the spread

Whilst cleanliness is always important all year round, it’s especially important while the coronavirus is spreading. Education is quite possibly the most important when preparing for the defence against coronavirus. At HappyCareOne we provide extensive training to all of our staff to make sure we’re prepared to stop the spread of coronavirus.

One of the most critical topics is hand washing. Carers should be reminded of the importance of washing their hands frequently both at work and outside of work.

#2: Ensure your staff are able to remain home if they’re sick

Outbreaks are often amplified when employees, especially care workers, feel the pressure to continue working regardless of their symptoms. Often staff are having to live pay check to pay check so it may be worthwhile to see if the government are offering paid sick leave or can support in anyway at all with grants.

To cover them you could look agency support, please be sure to get in touch with us if we can help in anyway at all. Our phone number is: 01424 868031

#3: Dedicated Staff Members

We’ve begun providing dedicated staff for each care home, meaning they won’t be mixing in with other care homes, reducing the risk of spread significantly. Our staff will also be prepared for live-in periods, if any of our care homes do go into complete lockdown. Ensuring your residents get the care they deserve during these tough times.

We’re preparing early, to ensure all of our clients continue to receive the top level of service.
